Regulariseret gradient-boosting udvider det klassiske additive træensemble (Friedman 2001) ved at indlejre L1- og L2-straffetermer direkte i træningsmålet, sammen med en kompleksitetsstraf for træstørrelse. Dette rammeværk, populariseret af XGBoost (Chen & Guestrin 2016), reducerer overtilpasning og forbedrer generalisering sammenlignet med ureguleret boosting, samtidig med at metodens karakteristiske nøjagtighed på tabeldata bevares.
