ResuméQualitative-priority mixed methods design is a mixed methods approach in which qualitative inquiry carries the greater weight — in terms of volume, analytical depth, and interpretive authority — while a supplementary quantitative strand provides supporting evidence. The design acknowledges that the phenomenon under study is best understood through meaning-making, lived experience, or social processes, with numbers used to corroborate or contextualize, not to dominate, the research story. The concurrent triangulation mixed methods design collects quantitative and qualitative data simultaneously, analyzes each strand independently, and then merges the results to assess whether the two data sources corroborate one another. Often called the convergent parallel design, it is one of the foundational configurations in mixed methods research and is chosen specifically when the researcher wants to cross-validate or triangulate findings from two distinct methodological traditions.
