ResuméBioaccumulation models predict how chemical contaminants accumulate in organisms from environmental exposure (water, food, sediment). Developed by Gobas and colleagues (2006), these models quantify the kinetics of chemical uptake, metabolism, and clearance. Bioaccumulation factors (BAF) and bioconcentration factors (BCF) measure the ratio of chemical concentration in organisms to concentration in the environment. Understanding bioaccumulation is critical for assessing ecological risk from persistent organic pollutants (POPs), heavy metals, and other contaminants.Food web topology analysis characterizes the structure of predator-prey interactions within ecological communities using network metrics. Pioneered by Williams and Martinez (2000) and extended by Dunne and colleagues (2002), this approach maps which species eat which and quantifies network properties (connectivity, clustering, robustness). Understanding food web structure reveals how ecosystems are organized, how stable they are to species loss, and what roles different species play in ecosystem function.
