Kationbytningskapacitet

Kationbytningskapacitet (CEC) er en fundamental jordbundsegenskab, der måler jordens evne til at holde og frigive positivt ladede næringsstofioner (kationer: K⁺, Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Na⁺, H⁺, Al³⁺) i former, der er tilgængelige for planterødder. CEC afspejler mængden og typen af ler<bos> organisk materiale i jorden — forbindelser med negativt ladede overfladepladser, der tiltrækker og midlertidigt binder kationer. Jorde med høj CEC tilbageholder næringsstoffer længere og kræver mindre hyppig gødskning; jorde med lav CEC mister hurtigt næringsstoffer gennem udvaskning.
