الإثنوغرافيا الطولية هي تصميم بحث نوعي يقوم فيه الباحث بإجراء عمل ميداني مستمر ومتكرر مع نفس المجتمع أو المنظمة أو المجموعة عبر فترة زمنية ممتدة — من أشهر إلى عقود. من خلال العودة إلى الميدان في نقاط زمنية متعددة، يلتقط الباحث كيف تتطور العمليات الاجتماعية والمعاني والهياكل، مما يجعلها الطريقة النوعية الوحيدة القادرة على ملاحظة التغيير والاستمرارية في التجربة المعيشية بشكل مباشر.
