دراسة الحالة هي تحقيق سياقي مكثف لحالة واحدة (أو عدد قليل من الحالات) لاستكشاف ظاهرة بعمق. طورت بشكل منهجي بواسطة روبرت ك. ين (1984) وروبرت إي. ستيك (1995)، تستخدم دراسة الحالة مصادر بيانات متعددة (مقابلات، ملاحظة، وثائق، قطع أثرية) لإنتاج فهم شامل لظاهرة محدودة في سياقها الواقعي.
