يدرب التعلم الذاتي عبر الإنترنت (online SSL) الشبكات العصبية على بيانات غير مصنفة تصل بشكل متسلسل أو في تدفقات، باستخدام إشارات إشرافية يتم إنشاؤها تلقائيًا (مهام تمهيدية) بدلاً من تسميات بشرية. من خلال تحديث النموذج باستمرار مع تدفق البيانات الجديدة، فإنه يمكّن من تطور التمثيلات بشكل دائم دون تخزين مجموعة البيانات الكاملة - وهو أمر بالغ الأهمية للأنظمة في الوقت الفعلي، والأجهزة الطرفية، والإعدادات المقيدة بالخصوصية.
