تحليل صخري
التحليل الصخري هو الفحص المجهري لشرائح الصخور الرقيقة لتحديد التركيب المعدني، حجم الحبيبات، النسيج، والتغيرات التكوينية. ابتكرت هذه الطريقة على يد ساربي عام 1858، ولا تزال المعيار الذهبي لفهم علم الصخور، وقد تطورت لتشمل تحليل الصور الكمي والتلألؤ الكاثودي. ترتكز بيانات علم الصخور على تفسير سجلات الآبار، وتصادق نماذج السرعة الزلزالية، وتقييد تاريخ البيئات القديمة والتكوينات.
