When to use it

Should I allow users to create new categories in closed sorts?

Typically no; closed sorts test predefined categories. But allow a miscellaneous or 'other' category where users can flag items that don't fit. This reveals gaps and problematic items. Follow up with open sort on problematic items if needed.

How do I know if a card sort result is reliable?
