HFLPR-PRIORITY (Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic Preference Relation Priority Programming (Ren-Zhu-Xu 2018)) is a preference relations multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method introduced by Ren, P. J. Zhu, B. Xu, Z. S. in 2018. It turns a decision matrix of alternatives scored on multiple criteria into a structured, reproducible result.

Key highlights

  • Follows a transparent, reproducible computational procedure that can be audited step by step.
  • Handles multiple criteria of differing scales and units within a single decision matrix.

When to use it

HFLPR-PRIORITY is best suited when decision makers can naturally express preferences as 'alternative A is moderately to strongly preferred over alternative B' using linguistic terms, but find it difficult to provide a single precise term (hence using multiple terms). It avoids the consistency-repair step required by traditional HFLPR methods, making it faster and more preserving of original judgments. The t parameter must be set using Table 6.1 for the given HFLPR order.

Strengths & limitations

Strengths
  • Follows a transparent, reproducible computational procedure that can be audited step by step.
  • Handles multiple criteria of differing scales and units within a single decision matrix.
Limitations
  • May exhibit rank reversal when alternatives are added to or removed from the set.
