When to use it

MUS is most effective when testing account balances with few large items and many small items (e.g., accounts receivable, inventory, fixed assets). It is ideal when the auditor expects few misstatements or when misstatements are likely to be concentrated in large-dollar items. Less useful for transaction-level testing or accounts with many items of similar size. MUS works best when the population is approximately balanced with few highly misstated accounts.
